Friday Fives – Hobbies

HI :3

2016-06-03 21.02.49

I just had this random idea that I could do a small post every Friday where I write down a list of 5. This list could have anything: quotes, favourites, what I don’t like, etc. I’m not sure where this series of posts could lead to but I figured I’d give it a try.

For my first Friday Fives, here’s my list of my Top 5 hobbies:

2016-06-03 20.56.45

1) Watching YouTube videos

After giving it some thought, I realized that I watch YouTube more than anything else right now. I have a few favourite YouTubers whose videos I always watch because they always make me smile when I’m down, teach me how to make awesome food and help me learn more about random topics.

2) Being with my best friends

There are only a few people I’ve made this unspoken promise with and being with them really calms me down. It doesn’t really matter what we’re doing, we could be watching a movie, talking or just sitting together and I’d feel a lot calmer already.

3) Writing/ blogging

It’s been nearly a month since I started blogging and so far… wow. Writing helps me relieve my thoughts and feelings in a good way and being able to connect with other people through my blog has helped me in so many ways. I’ve also recently had a huge amount of inspiration to write different posts and it’s actually my third day of posting consecutively (woo!) so I’m definitely enjoying it.

4) Baking

As much as I love eating food, I also love making them and baking is just really fun for me (and my family… and my friends… ’cause they get to eat the treats I made). I also find it great because I can share my creations with others see their happy faces when they eat them.

5) Watching anime

Ever since school ended, I’ve been catching up with all the anime that I’ve been wanting to watch or have been recommended to me. Currently, I’m in the middle of watching 3 series, 2 of which are ongoing and the other is completed with about 24 episodes. This activity is kinda weird because even though it’s my hobby, it’s something that comes in periods. So sometimes, I’ll watch the whole series in a day and keep doing this for a few days; but other times, I just don’t feel like watching anything.

Aaand that’s my Top 5 hobbies! It was a bit hard to narrow it down to five things but these 5 are definitely what I either do the most/ enjoy the most. I’ll be back next Friday with a new Top 5 list!

My writing experience

HI :3

Constructs an amazing story in my head with witty characters, awesome battle scenes and a worthy plot. *sits down to write* “How do I word?”

So as someone who has tried sooo many times to write a fictional story, I have come across this struggle each time. I’ve also seen many posts about it on the Internet so it’s comforting to know that I’m not the only one who gets stuck on doing this. Right now, I’m debating whether or not to start anew or complete the one I started many years ago.

While I always daydream about being able to write my own fictional story, I actually find it harder than and very different from blogging. In blogging, I just have to be myself and write down all my thoughts and feelings. It also seems to be much easier to gather inspiration for writing my blog since I always jot down any thought that comes into my head for later use.

Now don’t get me wrong, I love writing. It’s just the actual process of doing it that is hard for me to do. Before writing the story itself, I do research on certain topics to make my plot seem more realistic which helps me learn about stuff outside a classroom. This has included weapons, places, codes/ languages and so much more. So don’t judge writers for searching up weird things because I’ve had to justify many times, it’s for the story.

I also note down any specific features of my characters’ personalities, background stories and looks. In doing so, I’m able to embody different personalities and for some characters, I feel like a proud parent because I envision their progress and achievements all while knowing about their insecurities and strengths. I really love writing about my characters because for some of them, I can see a bit of me in them (does that even make sense??) such as their hopes, dreams, weaknesses and the like.

Another thing I do is to jot down any specific events in the story’s timeline like battle scenes, the ending and even the beginning. And sometimes, I get sooo wrapped up in this process that when I get to connecting these events, I blank out. I seriously find it extremely difficult to be able to write the middle or little scenes because, even though they’re not fillers, I just can’t think of how or what to put in them. Such is the struggle of being a fictional writer.

And don’t even get me started on… the title.

The Blogger Recognition Award

HI :3

This is actually my first time doing this kind of thing so I’m really excited to give it a try! I was nominated by the really friendly Just a Blank Space, so without further ado let’s get right on it!

There are rules for this thing so here they are:

  1. Write a post to show your award
  2. Tag the blogger who nominated you
  3. Write a brief story on how you started blogging
  4. List two pieces of advice
  5. Nominate 5 bloggers

The story of why I began blogging:

I only started blogging regularly online just a few days ago but I always loved to write. For me, writing is really therapeutic and my escape from reality since it helped me relieve all my thoughts and feelings in a creative outlet. I also find it easier to communicate via writing instead of speaking so I like to believe that written words are magical because they can carry your thoughts and feelings in a way that they can be understood.

I always used to keep journals but the concept of blogging intrigued me since it seemed like a great way to relax and even meet new people. I’m also coming to the end of secondary school and a lot of things have happened that I felt like I had to write them down to share with others or even just to look back on to smile. So I finally decided to create my own blog and the character little Purple.Mage to keep track of my thoughts and feelings at this exciting point in my life.

Moving on to my advice:

Number 1: Write what you love and love what you write. It’s so much easier to write about something you’re passionate about since you have so much more to say about the topic. However, if you re-read your writing and you don’t like how it turned out then there’s no shame in trying again. Awhile back, I tried to write an opening for a story which I was really excited for but when I read it again, it didn’t feel right for me so I just started over. This can happen a lot of times which brings me to my next piece of advice:

Number 2: Don’t force yourself and never give up! If you need to take a few breaks in between writing sessions to get over a writer’s block then do it. I find that I’m able to create better pieces of writing after I’ve taken a break and gathered my thoughts. I try not to force myself to write when I don’t feel like it but I always motivate myself to do it whenever the inspiration strikes!
